Death of a Turtle

Closing my little eyes
Dreaming a dream of home
The beach where I met my wife
And all of the friends I've known
Lord let me go home...
Lord let me go home...
Open my little eyes
Try n control my breath
So hard to realise
My life is now this net
Lord let me go home...
Lord let me go home...
These shrimp stare at me with their dead eyes
The two-legs came around n took away from me my feeding ground, years ago.
Never again see my sea grass meadow
Grandmas a handbag
Cousins a soup
Those first 5 years flapping with my friends so long ago
Mowing the grass in the Lagoons I used to call home
My babies should be following moonlight making headway to the promised land
but my babies are mistaken by the bright city lights too small, too young to understand
In this net
Trying to breath
All alone
It's just me
The past gone
And the future too
Nothing I can do
My life is flashing before my eyes
Oh Lord, I can see a light
My life is flashing before my eyes
Oh Lord I see a light

Bug-hole Finger-Digger

Crunched-up bugs – s’what I like eating
I’m eating-out – most every evening
I hunt alone – then head-on home
My belly a-squiggling with good feelings
A hollow tree – well that’s ‘chez me’
My family sleep – ‘til the moonlight comes
Back around
You Groom Me - & I’ll Groom you
Til this old forest is cut down too
Til then I’ll hold on to you
Whistle 1
I’m stealing eggs – with my cat-stilt legs
Running reds to get home to you
My ten-ounce-ass – is swinging past
But Jungles fast running out for me
We sleep away – each sunny day
Snuggled like lovers asunder
Monkeyshines – OOO-ooo – burned away
(but) You Groom Me - & I’ll Groom you
Til this old forest gets burned up too
What the hell else
Can We Do – ooo-ooo
(Whistle 2)
I’m afraid we’re nearly through
Wrestle-fights – most every night
Our spirits up – wrastlin’ in the dusk
My buddies sleep – til the moonlight creeps
Back around
(so) You Groom Me - & I’ll Groom you
Til this old forest is cut down too
Til then I’ll hold on t’you
Until we’re really through

I paid a small fee to enter the Jardin des Plantes, Paris
To while away, before watching a play
Out in the daylight my friends the lions were taking a bite
Familiar to me, and boring, zoologically
The apes and their like, were not to my like-ing
Constantly scratching their heads with their toes and fight-ing
And panther and kind, were acting unkind
Agrressively searching for food and fun and sniffing behinds
It took courage, to enter the dark
This dank and forgotten part of the park
Black haloed golden eyes
Tiny fingers glassy sides
Rosy bodied 6 inch size
Axolotl, hypnotise
Returning each time, for aesthetic sublime
Yearning to press my nose to your tank, and question your mind
To study your poise, and how to sex the girls from the boys
Regenerative powers, that would vex me for hours
Got lost in your fronds, in your crimson fronds
Your translucent ceramic doll like skin above and beyond
Salamander meandering by
Never to know the blue of the blue of the blue of the sky
Then one day as I, looked on you
You regarded me too
Then I saw what you, saw when I
Stood their staring inside
Felt my feet on aquarium glass
Your new feet traversed the park
Now I live as you once did and
Live the new life axolotl
Black haloed golden eyes
Tiny fingers glassy sides
Rosy bodied 6 inch size
Axolotl, hypnotise

I wasn't lost, I'd just not been found
Now they're talking bout me like I'm living underground
And in a way, I guess that's true
Cos I only hit the surface for a day or two
At a time
What a time
So little time to make you mine
Mirror images
Amphibian kiss
Touch me baby with your padded fingertips
We'll find out if this kiss
Ends in metamorphosis
You'll be the prince and I'm the princess
Your Royal Purpleness
There's nothing else that's quite like me
I've even got my very own taxonomy
Subterranean, home-grown alien
multiplied, unidentified by homo-sapian
What a time
Oh, what a time
So little time to make you mine
Mirror images
Amphibian kiss
Touch me baby with your padded fingertips
We'll find out if this kiss
Ends in metamorphosis
You'll be the prince and I'm the princess
Your Royal Purpleness
I'm a rare find, an overnight national treasure
I only surface now and then for worldly pleasure
It's my rare ability to have a nose and a tail with such symmetry
Human eyes seem painted on
But who needs eyes where I come from?
We found out that this kiss
Ends in metamorphosis
Now you're the prince and I'm the princess
Your Royal Purpleness

The snow’s all around
Your tracks on the ground
Leave me your scent
And keep your distance
I walk alone, I hunt alone, I sleep alone, leave me
Ascending descending, this trail’s never ending
There’s only the scent of you, a scent of you
Every few dawns I’ll return to the rock where we leave our sign
Never meeting each other but know one another
Until the snows melt when I’ll cry for you, when I’m ready for you
Ascending the heights, a mountain of echoes
I walk alone, I hunt alone, I eat alone, I sleep alone
I run alone, I climb alone, I’ll die alone, leave me alone
This trail we both follow keeps us apart yet keeps us together
I leave you my scent just as you leave yours
Take a little of me with you
Ascending descending this trail’s never ending
There’s only the scent of you
Living at high altitude keeping my solitude
You’ll never see me hidden in the rocks
Leave me mark and then I’m gone, ascent unseen
I walk alone, I hunt alone, I eat alone, I sleep alone
I run alone, I climb alone, I’ll die alone, leave me alone

The wind combs my hair
My horns poke the clouds
How beautiful life is
High in the mountains
Majestic and lite
Afghani enchanter
I know I'm your pride
Pride of a hunter
You see me
You chase me
You hunt me
You chase me
You hunt me down
So I run and run and run
And I run and run and run
And I run and run and run away from you...

Come fly to me. There's a destination that I think you'd love,
Green trees below and clear skies above.
All I know is that I...
I'm enjoying my time away,
But I sure miss you
I'll be blue if you don't, I'll be blue if you do join me.
I'll be blue if you don't, but I'll be blue if you do fly to me.
Come take my wing, accept it as my apology.
A cage will make you say crazy things,
Things that I've heard before...
But I don't mean them,
I was just repeating what I heard them say.
(Come fly to me)
I'll help you spread your wings and soar.
So many places we can go.
Come take a little trip with me.
I really miss you baby.

Welcome, dear friends who were
Lucky enough to survive
To the Kakapo Family Reunion
Two thousand and five
There's a phone by the tree,
If you're mating, to make all your calls
There's a bin by the door for your
Gross indigestible balls
I see Bella and Boomer and
Basil, I'm so glad you came
And Gumboots, you rascal
You'll always live up to your name
Well the little ones Mossie and Millie
Won't leave me alone
But my gorgeous wife Heather
She loves my 100 Hertz Tone
I see Sandra and Suzie
and Jester and Jimmie and Joe
But what happened to Whiskas and Pegasus
We'll never know
Well our family reunion gets smaller
With each passing year
So let's all have a seed for the parrots
Who couldn't be here
Oh maybe our lives would be different
If we could fly
Oh we're easy to kill, but that
doesn't mean we have to die.

I am the living fossil discovered in a lump of rock the year the bicycle was born.
And I am the Lazarus taxon. You thought that I'd expired 80 million years ago,
but you were wrong.
A hundred years later I was hauled up from my underwater home.
The Paleozoic's been good to me,
and every age from then to now has let me be.
Oh, you don't know what you're missing.
I've got a hinged skull and a hollow spine.
Before you came along I was doing fine.
Well this may be your last chance to see...
So long and thanks for all the fishing.
I am an eco-warrior. Sleeping in the cold caves helps to conserve energy.
And I use my lobed fins to drift the currents when I need to feed.
You could learn a thing or two from me.
Well the Paleozoic was good to me,
and the late Cretaceous failed to put an end to my tree.
Oh, there's been some hard times it's true.
But now the sun is setting on the Chalumnae line.
If you fish us from existence will it weigh on your mind?
These pre-historic creatures are one helluva find.
So long and thank you.
Just think, I was the missing link
between the fishes and the creatures who emerged from the drink,
until a young museum curator discovered me
among the catch of the day of the trawler Nerine.
I'm not pretty to look at, not good to eat.
I can sometimes reach the mighty length of five or six feet.
The fishing boats snag me accidentally.
They used to throw me right back, but that's before they knew me.
You see, every damned collector wants to put me in glass,
tour me round the world - yeah, make some good cash.
The thing that made me such a curiosity
will result in my extinction eventually.
It makes me wonder how many others are just like me -
assumed to be extinct but really just out of reach.
Now this really is your last chance to see.
So long and thanks for all the fishing.

Intercontinental Music Lab Cambridge, UK
Since 2008, the Intercontinental Music Lab has produced eight albums. They’ve all been made in the same way. We came up with a concept or theme for an album, then asked people to choose subjects around that theme and compose some music. The theme for our first album was science. The theme for our latest album is Spielberg. Enjoy! ... more
